Jalon Valley Help

Santa Visited the Christmas Fayre in Xalo

A beautiful sunny autumn Sunday morning, 20th November, saw large crowds at the Xaló rastro site for Jalon Valley Help’s Christmas Fayre with music, stalls and games and for the first time a very busy Santa Claus. Our prayers had been answered and the cold winds vanished to give us a beautiful day with sun shine giving welcomed warmth to stall holders and visitors for the annual fayre.

The stalls were arranged on both of the rastro sites giving us plenty of choice and much browsing at the various stalls for Christmas gifts and even one stall where we could try out the massage/reflexology. There were games of skill with which to test our skill with the wheel of fortune or the knocking over of tin cans and of course there was the JVH raffle. But the star of the day was the arrival of Santa Claus, with his supporting Elf, who had made a special early visit to Xaló just to be at this event.

Music was provided throughout with Paul J both compering and singing and a superb young singer Lacey Avery, whose tremendous talent was clear to see. Our special thanks to all the singers for keeping us entertained throughout the fayre, we appreciate how difficult it must be to keep up the enthusiasm with only a passing audience – but we had raffle tickets to buy and Santa to visit!! Our special thanks to both singers.

I missed not being able to have mulled wine and a mince pie, but we appreciate JVH’s consideration of not taking the coffee and snack trade from the cafes along the road side, who also had a busy morning. All in all a success day for everyone and Pam Brooks, JVH President, later confirmed that euro 3,500 had been raised for the charity ‘which will be put to good use helping those in need in our community’, to quote her.

JVH are pleased to confirm the dates for the early evening and very popular Carols in the Square which will be on:

  • 9th December in Orba – starting at 6.0pm,
  • 12th December in Xaló – starting at 6.00pm, and
  • 16th December in Alcalali – starting at 6.00pm.

Jalon Valley Help is your locally based charity providing comfort and medical support for those in need in our community so please come along and support them at these events.

Please remember, JVH need more volunteers to support the work of the charity in a wide variety of roles for as little or as long as you can spare. It is very rewarding being part of a friendly team which is providing help to anyone in need in our local community. Please come along and give something back or, if that is not possible please continue to attend their events, to use their shops or to donate cash so they can continue this much needed help.

Also JVH are in need of winter clothes to sell in the shops, so look out anything you are not or cannot now use – this gives a double benefit in providing funds for JVH and warm winter clothes for those in need.
