Jalon Valley Help

Help For Ukraine

Since the start of the hostilities in Ukraine, Jalon Valley Help has been working to help the refugees. Initially we made a donation of 5.000€ to Cruz Roja to use for whatever was most needed on the front line.

Almost immediately after that we were approached by Hope4U who were making arrangements to bring refugees from Poland and to find homes for them to settle in the Vall de Pop. In total they found homes for 130 people. Although the homes were mostly fully furnished, some needed small items of furniture, new beds or mattresses, bedding, cooking utensils, crockery, cutlery etc. so JVH made sure that the homes were fully equipped. Some refugees had specific needs such as medical or baby equipment and all needed clothes, toiletries etc.

We had a tremendous response from the public to our appeal for help. In addition to all the clothes, household goods and toys etc. we received cash donations from individuals and organisations who held fundraising events. In total we gave over 12.000€ in cash to Hope4U, including 1.600€ we raised at a concert given by the Lisburn Harmony Ladies Choir (visiting from Northern Ireland) and the Costa Blanca Male Voice Choir.

One of our members, Monique Leckie, a talented artist whose father is Ukrainian painted a beautiful and symbolic picture entitled 'Anastasia - Spirit of Ukraine'. A copy of this was donated to Help4U, at their request, to be displayed at the Ukrainian Centre in Xaló. Greetings cards based on this painting were also sold to raise additional funds for Hope4U.

A massive thank you to everyone who donated or supported this appeal in any way.
