Start Of Carols In The Square
Jalon Valley Help’s (JVH) week of Thank You: Carols in the Square events commenced last Thursday, 7th, in the Ayuntemento Square in Orba with the Entertainers once more providing the songs and fun. JVH members, Sally Millane and Ann Martin, were on hand to distribute soft drinks and chocolates to the children and wine/beer and mince pies to the adults, which were much enjoyed by a large audience.
As Father Christmas was unable to attend this year, Geraldine supported four Orba youngster, Pepe/Jordi/Emma/Vega, to led the Entertainers through the first song of the evening, Jingle Bell Rock. This enthusiastic and entertaining performance led to a prolonged round of applause from the gathered audience and set the happy tone for the evening of entertainment.
We were soon all singing along whilst the Entertainers gave us a feast of Christmas songs, including Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, All I Want for Christmas, Little Drummer Boy and the Spanish songs Adeste Fideles and Feliz Navidad.
The Entertainers then moved onto some of their popular more modern songs, with a particularly poignant rendition of the Pogues’ Fairytale Of New York, as a commemoration to the life of Shane MacGowan. A couple of Spanish numbers, La Bamba and Resistere were well received by the mixed nationality audience. The Entertainers closed another fun evening with a beautiful medley of Beatles songs, with everyone joining in and going home humming along to their favourite songs.
Jalon Valley Help is very grateful for the support they receive from the residents of the Jalon & Orba valleys, which enables them to support anyone who is in need of medical support in the community. It is a busy time for JVH and the Entertainers as they will have performed at the JVH’s other two events, in the squares of Jalon & Alcalali, and at the Men’s Hostel in Gandia by the time we read this article.
